Trump-eting tea drinking

In this age of tariffs, I would like us to consider the positive benefits of recoiling from our very comfortable international consumption patterns. Rather than eat Californian strawberries in the middle of winter, with their sharp nothingness, wrapped in a package that is altogether the wrong consistency, let's wait and celebrate the warming of the land and those juicy, flavourful berries, with just the right bite; absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder.

It may be outside most peoples recollection now but the joy of seasonally harvested produce gave great joy, fell in step with our seasonal rhythm and added variety to the year. Is that not the spice of life?
Of course there are some crops we will never grow and some times in the year when nothing grows (unprotected anyway) and so concessions are made but these should be minimized to those products that are necessary for a healthy diet and are shelf stable.
As a child, dried fruits were one such item and they are, today, just as relevant or maybe more so. They can sustain us through periods when growth is impractical, they are shelf stable and they are denser than their hydrated former selves so, more efficient to transport.

Like dried fruits, tea is dehydrated vegetative matter and as such is available year round, spectacularly shelf stable and, yes, dense enough to make it's journey to market lower in carbon than many hydrated options.

Not convinced of it's merits? Well, apart from all the wonderful varietals available from this one plant (I am talking true tea here) it is also very well established as being good for you too. It is recognized by the FDA (as long as it exists) as being a healthy beverage, due to the body of evidence that it has health benefits including antioxidant properties.

So, enough already! Yes, the billionaires club are taking over, bye bye democracy, but look at the silver lining! That opportunity to get back to a simpler, healthier, more enjoyable relationship with food, with no compromise on taste or variety.
Tea promises you that!
